sapta rishi introduced

The Saptarshi (Sanskrit: सप्तर्षि, lit. 'Seven sages'

are the seven seers of ancient India who are extolled in the Vedas, and other Hindu literature such as the Skanda Purana.

The Vedic Samhitas never enumerate these rishis by name, although later Vedic texts such as the Brahmanas and Upanisads do, so these constellations are easily recognizable.

The earliest formal list of the seven rishis is given by Jaiminiya Brahmana 2.218–221:

followed by Brihadaranyaka Upanisad 2.2.6 with a slightly different list:

  Bhardwaja,Gautama,Jamadagni,Vashistha Vishvamitra,Atri,  Kashyapa/Agastya

Saptarishi refers to the seven great sages or "seven seers" in ancient Vedic and Hindu tradition. The name comes from sapta (seven) and rishi (sage). These revered figures are associated with immense wisdom, cosmic knowledge, and are often linked to the seven stars of the Big Dipper constellation (Ursa Major). They are believed to have safeguarded the laws of creation and serve as eternal guardians of knowledge.

Key aspects of the Saptarishi

Cosmic significance: The sages represent eternal wisdom and are said to be symbolic of cosmic and spiritual forces, such as the seven chakras, pranic winds, and stars.

Associated with stars: The seven brightest stars of the Big Dipper constellation are considered to be the Saptarishi.

Names: While the specific names can vary, the seven sages of the current epoch (manvantara) are commonly identified as Atri, Bharadvaja, Gautama, Jamadagni, Kashyapa, Vasistha, and Vishwamitra.

Role: They are considered torchbearers of righteousness (dharma) and have contributed invaluable teachings that influence religious and social life.

Eternal nature: The Saptarishi are believed to have become eternal residents of the stars, forever watching over and guiding humanity.

Symbolic meaning: The concept is sometimes interpreted metaphorically, with some linking the seven "senses" (two eyes, two nostrils, two ears, and one mouth) to the Saptarishi
